Advanced Medical Support Assistant

The duties of the Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) for the HBPC program include, but are not limited to:
Organizing and maintaining the complex day-to-day administrative operations of the HBPC program; Interacting with the Nurse Coordinator and other multidisciplinary staff members assigned to the program; Ensuring scheduling grid reconciliation and cancelling/opening clinics when necessary; Triaging inquires from patients, caregivers, other agencies and VA staff concerning the HBPC program; Answering administrative questions, specified technical/medical questions and be able to determine which are urgent and require immediate attention; Reviewing, reporting, collecting, compiling and/or tracking of data and statistical information; Reviewing documents and reports for accuracy and completeness; Working with the HBPC Falls Committee to ensure all HBPC patients' falls are documented using the appropriate fall assessment form; Ensuring all HBPC patient infections are reported; Creating graphs and charts showing trends that will be presented at the quarterly facility meetings regarding infection control; Ensuring all disciplines are seeing patients within the time frame set by the HBPC policy; Working with Nursing staff on each team ensuring all HBPC patients discharged from the hospital receive medication reconciliation in a timely manner; Maintaining various reports (vesting report, average daily census, clinical visit tracking and total HBPC numbers) that are sent monthly to the Service Chief of Primary Care and the Administrative Assistant to the Medical Center Director; Completing 90 day review notes on a weekly basis for the Nurse Practitioner's signature and creating a medication calendar for each patient; Reviewing consults for appropriateness for admission to the HBPC program and monitoring the VERA status of each HBPC patient on a monthly basis; Monitoring nursing bags and government vehicles monthly to ensure no outdated medical supplies are being transported to patients' homes; Compiling appropriate information to submit the GSA vehicle usage report on a monthly basis; Ensuring 55 patient satisfaction surveys are handed out by staff to as random sample of HBPC patients; Creating and maintain a spreadsheet documenting each veteran enrolled in the HBPC program; Scheduling patients in VISTA PCE on a daily basis; Serves as the timekeeper and IRM ADPAC for he HBPC program; Creating all CPRS templates to be used in HBPC; Performing other related duties as assigned. Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR Education. One year above high school; OR Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Grade Determinations:
Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-5). Specialized experience includes but is not limited to:
Operating computerized programs and databases in order to enter, modify and retrieve sensitive information/data into or from electronic medical records scheduling systems and/or reports; Scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with scheduling guidelines; Basic understanding of medical terminology; Communicating effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels; Identifying customer's concerns, perform the tasks required to resolve the issue accurately and timely, and follow-up as necessary to ensure a satisfactory resolution. In addition to the Experience Requirements listed above, Candidates must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below:
Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met. Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, with internal and external customers. This may include preparing reports in various formats and presenting data to various organizational levels, as well as resolving patient concerns. Advanced knowledge of the technical health care process (including, but not limited to, scheduling across interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community models and patient health care portals) as it relates to access to care. Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology due to the technical nature of language utilized by clinicians. The work is primarily sedentary. The incumbent is required to sit for various lengths or time as well as some bending, walking, and lifting. Must be able to operate a computer terminal and be able to manage multiple activities at one time.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
