Nurse Practitioner

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions interdependently with physicians and is responsible for providing quality care, consultation, education, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The NP is accountable for the management and evaluation of a panel of patients under his/her care. The NP provides comprehensive preventative and wellness care, as well as the spectrum of acute, episodic, chronic and end-of-life care to Veterans assigned to his/her Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Teamlet. The NP uses the nursing process and evidence-based practice to work collaboratively with the Teamlet and the family/caregiver, internal and community-based services and disciplines involved in providing care to the patient, in developing the patient-driven holistic care plan for life. The NP is a member of the Teamlet providing diagnosis and treatment. The NP provides patient and family health education with a focus on self-management, prevention, and wellness, based on the patient's goals. The NP is prepared in advanced practice across the health continuum. The NP role includes participating in and use of research, development and implementation of health policy, leadership, education, case management and consultation. This nurse practitioner is a skilled health care provider who utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis, and the prescribing of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments in the direct management of acute and chronic illness and disease. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Responsible for interviewing, evaluating, assessing, diagnosing and treating ambulatory patients presenting to the Primary Care Clinics. Monitor patients' conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients. Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary. Coordinate work with nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other allied health professionals in the provision of a variety of health services. Utilizes preventative clinical guidelines, appropriate nursing and medicine standards of care, and collaborates with team physicians in providing quality care to patients presenting with acute and chronic conditions. Promotes wellness and prevents illness and injury. Conducts a comprehensive assessment of patients' medical, physical and bio-psychosocial status. Employs complex strategies, interventions and teaching to promote, maintain and improve health and prevent illness and injury. Uses current health care research to expand clinical knowledge, enhance role performance and increase knowledge of professional issues. Utilizes research to examine and critically evaluate knowledge and theories to creative approaches to existing practice. Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team, providing consultation and education as needed. Demonstrates leadership through development and coordination of programs to improve quality of care and organizational processes. Responsible for demonstrating and maintaining full competency in the use, pre-cleaning and/or reprocessing of reusable medical equipment. May support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19 This Nurse Practitioner is directly supervised by the Primary Care Service Nurse Manager or Chief Nurse assigned to his/her assigned location. United States Citizenship. Education:
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Licensure:
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency. RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Nurse Practitioners. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. (The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.) Preferred
Experience:
Licensed APRN with prescriptive authority. A DEA license to assist with prescription of controlled medications. A Current Basic Life Support (BLS) provider card issued by American Heart Association (AHA). 3 years of Primary Care experience strongly preferred. Adult/Geriatric/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Master's or completion of ACNP/CCNP post Master program strongly preferred. Experience managing a complex patient cohort within an ambulatory care setting. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level III - a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Per VA Directive and Handbook 5019 - a physical examination will be conducted based on the physical requirements of the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. Regarding this specific RN position, the population of male and female veterans served ranges from adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. The VA Medical center is a major interdisciplinary teaching facility, serving medical, surgical, and neurological inpatients and outpatients. There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, with admissions for medical co-morbidities. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continues walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. BLS/ACLS REQUIREMENTS UPON SELECTION:
Per VHA Directive 1177, current certification in BLS issued from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network is required for all staff providing direct patient care, and police. Additionally, current ACLS is required for patient care staff that work in specified or high-risk areas. If you are selected for a position which requires BLS/ACLS certification, you will be required to have proof of certification (issued from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network) prior to being boarded for an appointment with the VA. (Failure to provide such certification can result in delays in the hiring process). NOTE:
Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, paid and unpaid, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, students, researchers, volunteers, and trainees who work at these facilities. HCPs that are unable to receive or otherwise decline a flu shot will be expected to wear a face mask throughout the influenza season.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
